Falls High School
International Falls, MN
"Broncos"
The Falls High School class ring design is the oldest class ring tradition in the United States. The same class ring has been proudly worn by graduates of Falls High School since 1929. The plain gold or silver ring with the symbols of the sun, the pine trees, and the waterfall represent the International Falls area. Students order their class rings in the fall of their junior year with delivery in December. The only change in the ring design from year to year is the date of graduation. (FHS Website)
Falls High School athletic teams have a long history of successful competition in Region 7A and at state tournaments. "Bronco" Football achieved statewide recognition under coach Frank "Butch" Larson". The "Bronco" Hockey Teams, under coach Larry Ross, were dominant for many years in the State High School Hockey Tournament. The early hockey years of the Richard "Dick" Dougherty (54 All American at UMN, 56 Olympics) led Broncos vs the John Mayasich led Eveleth Golden Bears was the start of this tremendous tradition in "northern" hockey (UMN). [Eveleth State Hockey Championships: 1945, 1948-51, 1993 (II), 1998 (A)] [Falls State Hockey Championships: 1957, 1962, 1964-66, 1972, 1995 (A)]
The Falls 1964-1965 team had an extended (58 games) winning streak (see Message Board Entries).

The name "BRONCOS" is from the legendary Bronislaw "Bronko" Nagurski, Sr. (1908-1990) whose legendary athletic skills led to fame in College Football at the University Of Minnesota and the National Football League as a Chicago Bear as well as in professional wrestling. Bronko Nagurski is a member of the Hall of Fame at the University of Minnesota, College Football, and the NFL. He was a charter member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and College Football Hall of Fame. He played both Offense and Defense before the time of "specialists" in the game. There are many tales told of his great "strength and tenacity" on the football field. The Bronko Nagurski Museum is located in "Smokey Bear Park" in downtown International Falls.
